Francisco Infante-Arana Francisco

Fransisco Infante-Arana is a Soviet and Russian installation artist and photographer. He was born in 1943 in Vasilievka, Saratov Oblast (USSR). In 1966 he graduated from Stroganov College of Decorative and Applied Arts, Moscow. Arana created his first installations in the late 1960’s; in the mid-1970’s he developed his own philosophy of the ‘artifact’ that traces back to Malevich’s and Tatlin’s utopian objects which unite nature and technology in a symbiotic organism. Arana denies digital manipulation; instead he creates open-air mirror sculptures that transform and refract natural environment. He collaborates artistically with his wife Donna Goryunova since 1968. 

Francisco Infante-Arana's exhibition were held in cities all over the world including New York, Riga and Moscow. His work is in the collections of numerous museums including the Brooklyn Museum, New York; the Fonds national d'art contemporain, Paris, the State Tretjakov Gallery, Moscow; and the State Russian Museum, Saint Petersburg.
